Working With Rails

My name is Tom Kersten. I was born & raised on a farm in North Dakota and went to college at NDSU until I moved to Tucson, Arizona with my then girlfriend, now wife, Jenny. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in MIS and a minor in Computer Science in December of 2003. After graduating from the University of Arizona I was a System Engineer for a company that provided solutions to the health care industry. At that time, I worked in the ‘Managed Services’ department of the company & primarily managed clusters of OpenVMS systems running Oracle, MQSeries of course the company’s solutions for the healthcare industry.

Currently I am a Software Engineer working in the R&D Department of a company which manufactures hearing instruments. The majority of my work these days is in developing out an information system for our department, which makes me one of the lucky people who’s job pays them to Rails development.

In my spare time I basically try to keep up with what’s going on in the tech world. I am trying to learn as much as possible about Ruby) & Rails. Aside from that my wife and I enjoy traveling and are enjoying our new lives as parents.
