Do you live Ruby and Ruby on Rails, Amazon Web Services, AJAX, Java, Javascript, C#, PHP, REST, SOAP and GIT? We're looking for talented hackers to help create the next great social communications system. You'll be starting as an independent consultant, but once you've proven yourself, there is plenty of room to grow. We're based in New Hope, Pennsylvania, an old artists' colony that boasts some of the best quality of life in the country. Near Princeton, New York City, and Philadelphia, New Hope is at the locus of the cultural and intellectual activity in the east while providing restful living and a near-zero crime rate. Come to New Hope and you'll never want to leave. Do you have what it takes to make the world a better place? Do you want to work with people as smart as you on problems that really matter? Are you audacious enough to think that you can change the world? We're looking for people who have lived the life of a hacker. Were you taking things apart while your friends were watching TV? Were you building things when others were out drinking? Do you know you can do it "better?" The following describes a few developer "types" as examples. These are specific skills we need, but we're not looking to hire specialists who do JUST these things. Here's to the Crazy Ones Ultimately, a good developer is a great problem-solver who can work their way through a broad array of issues. So if you have some or all of these skills, GREAT, just make sure you're good at other things too. If you've ever worked in a startup environment, you know that pigeon-holing people is the fast route to failure. Startups need versatile developers. But, sometimes, there's no substitute for specialized skills.... Sinatra - You know services - what they are, why you'd use them and how to create them. You'll develop the underlying engine on which all our apps will run. AWS DBA - You're intimately familiar with AWS and can implement a secure, robust database architecture capable of supporting millions of active users. Middleware developer - You tackle tough new challenges head on, crafting elegant and efficient solutions that interact seamlessly with disparate systems. If you dream about threads and optimal paths, you just might fit in. Complex heuristics and algorithm geek - Do spend your time solving non-trivial problems? Relish the thought of beating spammers? Capable of distinguishing between bots and live users? Have experience in computational linguistics? You'll use all your skills and your brain will hurt while you develop systems that will make Sergey and Zuck jealous. You'll be working with fun, really smart people. Our co-founder/CEO is an uber-geek, who, as a college sophomore at Cornell in the early 80's, created the curriculum that became their AI program so that he could take a diverse curriculum, rather than the single-track proscribed by the computer science department. At the same time, he started the first company (ever) focused on digital video microscopy. One of his first major projects was crafting a real-time video microscopy system in 8080 assembly language, (about five years before Photoshop even existed). That system evolved into MetaMorph, the industry standard imaging software now used worldwide for biomedical imaging. Ever heard of Adobe After Effects? That was developed by a guy who honed his skills in video imaging working for that first company. So, if you want to work on a team where you'll be challenged to be your best and have a great time doing it, apply to join OurKudos. I am a successful NYC based serial entrepreneur starting a niche social ecommerce website. We will get as many people as possible to use the site, however, the site will still be highly profitable even if only a few thousand people end up using it, but I highly doubt we will have that small a number of users:). The website is already fully designed in photoshop files and I have detailed storyboards demonstrating exactly how the site will work. You will be responsible for taking my PSD files and storyboards and then building them into a fully functional website. I figure we can work out an additional ongoing monthly fee for you to perform any necessary maintenance on the site and make sure is remains up and running smoothly. I’m open to discussing a larger budget if you feel you can’t program everything yourself and need to outsource some of the grunt work to additional onshore or offshore developers. From a pure tech POV, my site is a clone of overstock.com with some niche/clever/profitable social features built on top of it (and of course a totally different design). By a overstock.com clone, I mean that when a user clicks on a product they are interested in buying, my site will give the user the option to buy it directly from my website AND ALSO show the user prices that other ecommerce sites are selling the product for (allowing us to collect affiliate revenue). Please see this overstock.com screen shot for an example= http://www.box.net/shared/xg6crj7dnn When a user buys an item directly from my site I plan to use services like doba.com and other drop ship suppliers to source and mail the item (allowing my site to keep a totally “virtual” inventory of physical products). To let users compare prices other sites are selling a product for before buying the product directly from my site, I plan to use the API/affiliate-programs of large ecommerce sites such amazon.com, bestbuy.com, ebay.com and so on. I am guessing the site could be built pretty quickly using a combination of Ruby on Rails, Magento, Lucene/Nutch, Java and/or Javascript, MySQL and more. HOWEVER, I will use whatever programing language, open source software, licensed software and so on that YOU the Developer/CTO feel is best for the project. Getting the site built as quickly as possible and the ability to make quick/agile changes on the fly (without having to sacrifice code quality or scalability) is very important to me. This is a freelance position, however I’ll give you the option to come on full time at a later date if you absolutely fall in love with the project. Look forward to hearing from you (and totally blowing your mind when you see the full idea, storyboards and PSDs !!!:) Developer requirements are as followed: 1. Must be based in or near New York City. 2. Understanding of how to technically integrate with drop ship suppliers. 3. Understanding of how to combine the APIs/affiliate-programs from many different ecommerce websites into a single “mashup” on my site. 4. Technical understanding of Facebook and Twitter integration. 5. A major plus (but, not a requirement) would be experience working at an ecommerce website carrying over 100k different products and/or “virtual” drop ship inventory. Cheers! Read more...

United States, New York City
We’re the guys who invented water, sliced bread, and the matrix. In that order. Now we’re working on THE BIGGEST THING EVER. And we need more firepower because… well because it’s the BIGGEST THING EVER. But we only work with Ninjas, Water Walkers, Shamans, and Creatures in the Sky. Mere rockstars, badasses, and others with lesser magic can stop reading now. (Ok really…) We’re in super stealthy mode, but here’s a couple of nuggets… We’re doing a streaming media service with heavy doses of social, sharing and game mechanics. Think points, badges, and rewards for sharing and generally participating in the service. We've got serious insider ties to our industry’s top content producers and we received a full A round from Sequoia early this year. We hope to be in our nice new office by the San Mateo CalTrain sometime in July. We’re still less than 5 fulltimers but we’re actively building the core team. We need Senior Web Engineers – Rails folks – to help shape the direction of our innovative web applications. You’ll have a broad scope, ranging from user-facing features to server-side components and libraries. The web applications you develop must not only be scalable, reliable and inexpensive to operate, but must also delight and inspire our (soon to be) millions of users. You’ve got several years experience with large consumer web sites and services. You’re a generalist and thrive in early stage environments, having been involved in your fair share of startups. Ruby on Rails is your strength but “full stack” means something to you besides a breakfast order at Mel’s. You’ve got real experience with HTML right through to MySql and are familiar with session management, object relational mapping, XML, web services. You can and want to be involved in design and architecture and you espouse a philosophy of iteration and continuous improvement. And of course you can crush ridiculously complex problems in your mind vice quicker than most people can explain Occam’s Razor. So if you’re a ridonkulous Rails Shaman, get in touch telepathically and let us know you’re interested. Or be humble and drop us a line at sequoiastealth@gmail.com (sorry for the lame email but we really are in stealth mode for now). And remember – there is no spoon. Read more...

You will be joining a team of Ruby engineers who have worked hard to build the industry's easiest-to-use Identity & Access Management solution for enterprises. Although OneLogin is a security solution, we firmly believe that usability is the top priority. Most security solutions are so hard to implement and use and therefore end up collecting dust on the shelf. OneLogin caters to both small shops with dozens of users and larger enterprises with tens of thousands of users. Balancing the needs for both types of customers in one application is an art. Enterprise software is moving into the cloud and we're working with some of the most innovative companies in the industry. Join and help us make the cloud a safe playground for enterprises. The ideal candidate is driven, analytical and understands complex business processes. Having a solid understanding of the business problem you're trying to solve is a key to getting the implementation right. Great if you're also active in the Ruby community. * 2-3 years experience with Ruby on Rails * Fluent in XHTML and CSS * Fluent in Git * Proficiency with SQL and query optimization * Strong Javascript skills and experience with Prototype and jQuery * Experience with memcached, XMPP, RabbitMQ an advantage * Experience with socket programming * Experience with distributed systems and scale-out technologies an advantage * Experience with PHP and Java an advantage * Experience with scale-out technologies and AWS a plus Read more...

Requirements: ■Shipped some Rails sites before - we love fast learners but are really looking for someone to hit the ground running ■We use jQuery and Javascript throughout our site, so if you're solid there it's a big plus ■Have a great attitude - we enjoy working together, and hope you would too Skills that'll land you first in the queue: ■Front-to-back Rails development ■Caching (via Memcache) & performance in Rails ■Rspec/BDD ■Cucumber/Integration testing ■Bonus points if you've shipped a high-traffic Rails site or published a Gem or Plugin To apply, please send an email to lauren.arcidy@rovicorp.com with your resume and a brief note about yourself in response to this post. Links to your Github profile, programming blog, or other public code are not required but we'd love to see any you may have. Read more...

You know what's great about writing software? You take something that exists only in your head and you turn it into something real. You create something out of nothing, and when it's thumping and breathing in front of you, you share it with the world. Do you want to share your ideas with the world? Our company needs people who write code because they think writing code is awesome. We're not like other companies. We're small, we're built and run by programmers, and we're trying to do cool things with software. We'll treat you right, we'll pay you right, and we'll help you grow. In exchange, we expect you to put your heart into your work, to write great code, and to be reliable. What We're Doing: We are building a modern software platform for intelligent email delivery and management. We're in the email industry, but we're not doing dirty things. We send email for medium and large businesses, mostly in the US and Europe, and we help them keep track of what happens when they send those emails. The platform we're building is a beautiful blend of some exciting components, - Modern API development: allowing our customers to hook into everything we've got. - Massive data storage and processing: keeping track of all data flowing through our network, processing it, and learning from it. - Cool Interfaces: built on top of our own API and using our collected data to present real-time and complicated information to end-users. - Serious Message Delivery: We send a lot of email. More than you'd imagine. And we're getting very good at understanding how to do it right. What You'll Be Doing: You will be part of our core team working on the new technology described above. You'll be using your experience to, - Implement a modern infrastructure using Ruby, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Linux, RSpec, and a slew of other common open source supporting technologies. - Employ test-driven and behavior-driven development, and jump-start continuous integration. - Become a serious pro on email technology. We'll help you get there. - Collaborate with the team on the way we work - designing coding practices, deployment process, and development roadmap. REQUIRED SKILLS: - Serious experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails on a *nix platform. - 2+ years direct experience with Linux. - Demonstratable experience creating or using web-based APIs. - Familiarity with object-oriented design, design patterns, and how they apply to Ruby - Formidable XHTML/CSS/JavaScript and MVC framework experience Would Be Nice: - Knows Agile development practices, thinks they’re awesome, and is excited to use them. - Knowledge and understanding of data storage/modeling for scalability and performance. - Familiarity with the git version control system. - Hands-on experience with redis, memcached, or similar technology. - A fan of using and contributing to open source. About Us: SMTP.com is an independent service provider exclusively focused upon the execution of email delivery. We provide email services in a world where not everybody sending email is somebody we can trust. As a company we are dedicated to helping only legitimate senders to send the messages they need to send, while innovating technical and social solutions to preventing the transmission of SPAM and email abuse. As of May, 2011 we are a public company trading under ticker symbol SMTP. Stock options are part of our standard employment package. Note: We are an American company, but all of our development takes place in our Kiev office. Read more...

We're in search of a full-stack software engineer to be a core part of a small, agile team that is building both a web application and a backend web service that interfaces with our software on a huge number of smartphones. What do we mean by a huge number? Millions of devices connecting a day, a billion full-stack requests per month, managing hundreds of terabytes of data. Our servers handle collaborative anti-malware scanning with phones, monitor new and existing threats, back up and restore data, and provide remote management facilities for devices. You'll be working on a web-scale application, so an aptitude for developing elegant, scalable, robust, and maintainable code is a must. You should have very strong knowledge of relational databases, and be ready to work with NoSQL and distributed systems as well. We're in search of a full-stack software engineer to be a core part of a small, agile team that is building both a web application and a backend web service that interfaces with our software on a huge number of smartphones. You'll be working on a web-scale application, so an aptitude for developing elegant, scalable, robust, and maintainable code is a must. You should have very strong knowledge of relational databases, and be ready to work with NoSQL and distributed systems as well. Made by Many are looking for some more great technologists to join our team. As a company we conceive, design and develop new digital products and services for our clients. We relentlessly focus on user experience through a synthesis of great design and great technology because we believe that technology isn’t just the cogs in the engine, invisible to user, but is integral to how people feel about a product and the companies that make them. The products we make closely resemble digital start-ups and we use similar approaches and technologies to build them. Our approach is highly Agile, using Scrum and sometimes Kanban based approaches; we work iteratively but even before that we prototype products with lightweight technologies to refine our thinking and test with customers. Our main back-end technology is Ruby, primarily because it is well suited to delivering innovative products in an iterative environment but we also work with NodeJS, iOS, MongoDB and other tech. We believe that making bespoke solutions utilising ‘small tools’ allows us to create innovative, emotional software. A lot of our solutions are deployed on AWS hosting and knowledge of deploying with Chef and scaling services would be helpful. If you are experienced Ruby developer with a background making digital products and want to work in an environment working with designers and strategists collaborating on conceiving new ideas for products we would love to talk to you about a job here at Made by Many. We are looking for people with opinions about the right thing to do, passion for technology and great chops to pull off difficult coding challenges. Please apply with your CV and your github.com username so we can take a look at your workRead more...

RoR Developer Portland, OR Do you do Rails in your sleep? Do you really need to find a place that can make use all of your considerable skills and creativity? If so, you just got closer to a great place for you to do your stuff. Read on. Our mission: make it dead simple for developers to run their apps better/faster/cleaner, every minute of every day. Making it easy for them is, it turns out, hard work for us. It requires creative teamwork and engineering that push the edge of what you might have thought possible. Customer demand for our SaaS app performance management tools has been growing by leaps and bounds, and we need best-in-class talent to support this growth. If you are right for us you are passionate about addressing customer needs, work well in a distributed team, and have "agile" in your DNA – you don’t just talk about doing test driven development and continuous integration, it’s the only way you know how to work. To be considered seriously, you will also have: •Built and deployed commercial RoR applications (and you will point us to the URLs) •Strength in all the Rails fundamentals (routing, active record, migrations, modules, bundles ...) •A demonstrable knowledge of Javascript and CSS (again, URLs) •A firm grasp of multi-threading, database contention, and object-oriented design. •Experience with user-centered interaction design •A relevant college degree or equivalent experience A little about us: We are passionate, possibly even crazy, about application performance management (APM). Our mission is to make web applications run better, to make the internet more productive, and to make life easier for developers and devops. We are turning the APM marketplace upside down by providing SaaS products that deliver high-value functionality previously only available through enterprise software. We are well above 10,000 customers. And with your help we’ll get to 10x that number. New Relic is a Top 100 OnDemand Company, Best of SaaS (THINKStrategies), Top 100 Coolest Cloud Computing (CRN); 10 Cloud Mangment Companies to Watch (NetworkWorld); the list of accolades goes on. More important, we provide challenging work, opportunities to learn, high quality teammates, a great product, a company on the move, and . . . the freedom to do your work the way only you can do it. Our offices are in tech-rich urban centers, with easy commute access and a plethora of good eats. We provide competitive compensation (including pre-IPO stock options) and big-company benefits (medical, dental, etc), while maintaining the energy, agility and fun of a start-up. RocketSports is looking for a gifted mid or senior level developer to join our close-knit and extremely talented team. We’re experienced, disciplined and ambitious about building a quality product which brings delight to our users. We’re looking for self-starters with the ability to take on a range of very hard and intriguing challenges: from developing a world-class highly scalable destination website, to integrating that service with other platforms – mobile, social networks – to large-scale data acquisition and processing. For you, this presents an opportunity to develop a key role within a team that is growing rapidly. Being a true, boot strapped start-up this is a non paid role until our first round of funding (where we are in the midst of negotiating a deal with investors and have had their first proposal and now we're just amending a few details - so its expected to be a paid role very shortly). So long as you're willing to come on board full time in the future and be the main developer for the business, leading the technical side and then as we grow, recruiting other dev's etc with the option to set up offices in California, as our plans are to use the UK as a testing ground and launch in the US within 12 months. We are flexible in terms of where you work – either from home, with us or from wherever you feel is most productive. However, you will be expected to meet in London from time-to-time. We may look at desks at TechHub or another entrepreneurial space in town.Read more...

... Emails from around the world – consistently from contractors with experience and smarts – came in until I had a pool of several developers I could choose from. As a result, I found exactly – yes, exactly – who I was looking for, and continue to be impressed with him. Thank you many times over for your contribution to the Rails community.

Workingwithrails.com is outstanding! I was impressed to see our company listed in their index considering that we hadn't applied yet. I also posted a job in their free listings and received some quality candidates. This is the place to be if you're into Rails.

Thanks to Working With Rails we now have 8 to 10 freelancers that can complete our development teams on big projects and it was very easy and very fast to post an offer on their website. We had answers in 24 hours after we posted it, what can I say but thanks. I hope this site will continue the same way for a long time, it's a real benefit for the whole Rails community for both sides : developers and studio
